Brian Clough Statue, Nottingham
The Brian Clough Statue stands as a proud tribute to one of football’s most charismatic and successful figures, right in the heart of Nottingham. Located just off Old Market Square on King Street, this bronze sculpture captures Brian Clough in a triumphant pose, hands clasped above his head - a familiar sight to fans who followed his remarkable career.
Unveiled on 6 November 2008 by Clough’s widow, Barbara, the statue was the result of a grassroots effort by the Brian Clough Statue Fund. Volunteers raised nearly £70,000 through merchandise sales, events, and public donations to make the tribute possible. Sculpted by Les Johnson, the 9-foot-tall figure now draws football fans and curious passersby alike.
Although Clough had a brief and infamous stint at Leeds United, he is best remembered in Nottingham for his extraordinary tenure at Nottingham Forest, where he served as manager from 1975 to 1993. Under his leadership, Forest experienced their golden era, winning two European Cups, a European Super Cup, a league title, and four League Cups - achievements that cemented Clough’s reputation as one of the greatest managers in football history.
Brian Clough passed away in 2004, never seeing the statue himself, but his legacy lives on. Today, it’s more than a monument - it’s a gathering spot, a photo opportunity, and a heartfelt salute to a man who gave Nottingham its proudest footballing moments.
