Chiang Mai Air Museum, Chiang Mai

The Chiang Mai Air Museum is a hidden gem for historians and plane enthusiasts located near the Chiang Mai International Airport. Situated in a restricted area known as Wing 41, the museum houses an impressive collection of aircraft, ranging from World War II-era planes to more recent models used by the Thai Royal Air Force.

One of the unique aspects of the museum is that it opens only upon request. To visit, contact the hotel concierge for an appointment. However, there is an exception to this restricted access; the Chiang Mai Air Museum officially opens its doors to the public on Children's Day, which takes place every second Saturday in January.

For those fortunate enough to visit the museum, they will be treated to an array of aircraft with historical significance. The collection includes several planes from World War II, providing a rare opportunity to see and even enter these iconic aircraft. Among the notable planes showcased are the Douglas C-47, Japanese Nakajima B5N "Kate," North American T6, T-28s, Tiger Moth, and many others. Each plane has a unique story to tell, and visitors can learn insightful information about the history of each individual aircraft.

Beyond the World War II planes, the Chiang Mai Air Force Museum features some of the more recent models used by the Thai Royal Air Force, highlighting the evolution of aviation technology over the years. In total, there are 28 aircraft on display, representing the rich and diverse history of aviation in the region.
