Church at Clarendon, Arlington

The Church at Clarendon, originally founded as the Clarendon Baptist Church, is a Baptist congregation established in 1909 in Arlington. The church is affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the NorthStar Church Network. Its worship and teaching are rooted in the Bible and the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message, while its congregation includes people from varied backgrounds.

Sunday worship is offered in person and online, with Bible study and prayer gatherings held during the week. The church occupies the lower two floors of a 10-story mixed-use complex (vPoint) completed in 2012 after most of its aging 1950 sanctuary was demolished. The redevelopment preserved the historic steeple and the pillared façade, creating a new sanctuary, welcome hall, classrooms, offices, fellowship areas, and accessible facilities. Eight residential floors rise above the church, containing 116 apartments, with 70 of the units (approximately 60 percent) designated as affordable housing. The LEED Gold-certified complex also includes underground parking. An adjoining education building houses a child development center and the John Leland Center for Theological Studies.

Church life includes adult Sunday school, children’s classes on selected Sundays, weekly Bible study, prayer meetings, small groups, and fellowship activities. Its community work includes a benevolence fund for people in need and financial support for local nonprofit organizations. Visitors are welcome to attend public worship, although schedules and individual programs may change.
