Dendrarium, Sochi (must see)

Dendrarium is a large botanical park set on a hillside close to the Black Sea coast. It began in the late 19th century as a private garden and later became a public park open to everyone. The area is built on several levels, with paths, steps, and terraces that follow the natural slope of the land.

The park is known for its wide plant collection, with more than 1,500 species of trees and shrubs. Many of them were brought from warmer regions such as the Mediterranean, East Asia, Australia, and North and South America. Palms, cypress trees, magnolias, bamboo, and cedars grow well here thanks to the mild climate. Signs along the paths give simple information about where the plants come from and how they grow, which helps visitors better understand what they are seeing.

Different parts of the park have their own character. Fountains, stairways, small pavilions, and sculptures are spread among the trees. Some areas follow Italian or Japanese garden styles, while others are more open, with wide paths and shade. Small ponds with swans, ducks, and fish create quiet places to stop and rest.

A cable car runs between the lower and upper parts of the park, which is useful for those who prefer not to climb uphill. From the top, visitors can see the coastline and the green slopes below. Benches, clear walking routes, and shaded areas make the park suitable for slow walks, short breaks, or longer visits focused on plants and views.
