Doyle's Public House, Tacoma

Doyle's Public House, Tacoma

Doyle’s Public House is a neighbourhood pub that opened in 2006 with the idea of becoming a “third place,” somewhere between home and work where people could meet, talk, eat, and stay awhile. It has an Irish spirit, with Guinness, Jameson, and whiskey culture at its core, but the owners avoided standard Irish-pub formulas. As one co-owner put it, “If you’re looking for an Irish pub, fly to Dublin.” The result feels more like a local social room than a themed imitation.

Drinks are a major part of the pub’s reputation. Doyle’s is known for one of the South Sound’s largest curated whiskey selections and once ranked as Washington’s top-selling Jameson bar. Its “Dublin on Doyle’s” contest adds a playful touch: order the final shot from a bottle, and you enter a drawing for a trip to Dublin. Soccer screenings, pint-club traditions, and regular events strengthen its community feel.

Food gives the pub another layer of character. The menu mixes pub classics with standouts like Deviled Scotch Eggs and Korean Grilled Cheese, plus a winter Cajun Mardi Gras menu. Its daily opening reflects owner Russ Heaton’s aim to “cure loneliness” by giving people a steady place to gather.
