Edifício Santos-Dummont, Rio de Janeiro

The Santos Dumont Building is a circular office skyscraper situated in Rio de Janeiro's Centro neighborhood. During the military dictatorship era, the Aeronautics Club organized a competition to select the company to construct its headquarters. Servenco - Continental Engineering Services presented the winning project.

Santos Dumont was opened at a height of 141 meters with 45 floors, initially known as the "Sede do Clube da Aeronáutica" (Aeronautics Club Headquarters). During that year, it boasted the most floors of any building in Rio de Janeiro. Featuring a sleek silhouette and 4,400 windows, it gained recognition as a prominent landmark in Rio's city center.

In the 1970s, the Santos Dumont Building, with its 45 floors, held the distinction of being Rio's tallest structure. Its distinctive cylindrical shape and glass façade made it easily recognizable from a distance. The top floor housed South America's sole revolving restaurant, offering patrons a 360º view of the surroundings during their hour-long dining experience. However, this restaurant ceased operations in 1993.

Despite the closure of the restaurant, the building continues to offer breathtaking views. The rooftop deck provides panoramic vistas of Rio de Janeiro's landmarks, including Guanabara Bay, the Serra da Carioca mountain range, the Rio de Janeiro mountainous region, Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, the Rio-Niterói Bridge, the Maracanã stadium, Niterói, portions of the North Zone and suburbs, Aterro do Flamengo, and the entire city center.

A few years after its initial inauguration, the Aeronautics Club relocated to its former premises in Praça Marechal Âncora. As a result, the building was officially renamed the "Edifício Santos Dumont" and transformed into commercial space. Tenants of Santos Dumont now include communication companies, law firms, and various other businesses.
