Gallery Chemould, Mumbai

Founded in 1963 by Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy in Mumbai, Chemould is one of the pioneering exhibition venues in India specializing in modern and contemporary art. It showcases the creations of the country's most prominent artists, spanning various interdisciplinary and experimental mediums.

Over the years, Chemould has played a pivotal role in nurturing the early careers of renowned artists such as S. H. Raza, Tyeb Mehta, Bhupen Khakhar, Atul Dodiya, Anju Dodiya, and L.N. Tallur, among others. The gallery has also collaborated with institutions to organize mid-career retrospectives for artists like Jitish Kallat, NS Harsha, and Mehlli Gobhai. In addition to exhibitions, Chemould disseminates its artists' works worldwide through catalogs and monographs.

Through its diverse programming, Chemould has introduced significant female artists who serve as influential feminist voices in Indian art, including Mithu Sen, Pushpamala N, and Shakuntala Kulkarni. It has also featured artists like Shilpa Gupta, Nilima Sheikh, Varunika Saraf, and Reena Kallat, who engage with various aspects of today's socio-political landscape. The gallery's program extends to Desmond Lazaro, Aditi Singh, Bijoy Jain, and Lavanya Mani, who explore a wide range of material investigations and approaches.

In 2022, Chemould expanded its footprint with the introduction of a second gallery space in Mumbai, known as Chemould CoLab. This space emphasizes new and exciting work by emerging talents and hosts a summer residency program.
