Gallery Raymond, Kingston
Nestled in the heart of downtown Kingston, Gallery Raymond stands as the city’s largest commercial gallery, proudly representing 18 local artists and showcasing over 400 original works. With its deep roots in the community-spanning over 34 years-the gallery is more than just a space for art; it’s a living part of Kingston’s cultural heritage.
What makes Gallery Raymond truly unique is its setting: the main gallery occupies a historic former carriageway, while its custom framing workshop and overflow gallery are housed in a converted 19th-century stable known as The Mews. This blend of art and architecture lends the gallery a distinctive charm that echoes the city’s past.
Since its founding by Raymond Vos-who took over a framing shop in 1984 and later transformed it into a hub for original artwork-the gallery has continued to evolve. In 2002, all wall art was changed to originals, and Gallery Raymond officially opened its doors with a celebration of seven local artists. A few years later, a 300-square-foot extension was added to host bi-monthly, single-artist exhibitions, offering a rotating spotlight on emerging talents.
The addition of The Warehouse Gallery in 2007 further expanded its offerings. Located in the Mews, this space features larger and additional works, open by appointment and during Kingston’s bi-annual Art After Dark tours.
More than just a gallery, Gallery Raymond is a dynamic space where art, community, and history intersect. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a long-time supporter, the gallery offers an ever-changing window into the vibrant world of Kingston’s art scene.
