Genghis Khan Monument, Ulaanbaatar
Sükhbaatar Square is dominated by a grand ceremonial monument fronting the Government Palace. Completed in 2006, this colonnade-style complex was built to mark the 800th anniversary of Genghis Khan’s coronation. At its center sits a commanding seated statue of Genghis Khan, flanked to the left and right by statues of his son Ögedei Khan and his grandson Kublai Khan.
The monument also includes two mounted generals-Bo’orchu and Muqali-positioned to protect and accompany the central figure. The base of the colonnade and the statue features decorative elements drawn from Mongolia’s imperial heritage, including motifs from earlier eras such the Xiongnu, reflecting both historical continuity and national identity.
