Go'dagen, The Good Day, Trondheim

Go'dagen, The Good Day, Trondheim

Go'dagen, which translates to "The Good Day" in English, is a delightful bronze sculpture that has captured the affection of many in Trondheim. Placed strategically in the marketplace, not far from the tourist information center, this statue is more than just a piece of art; it embodies the essence of daily life and warmth in the city. The sculpture portrays an elderly woman, evoking the image of a friendly neighbor running errands, chatting casually, gossiping, or catching up with friends in the square. Crafted by the talented sculptor Tone Thiis Schjetne in 1983, this endearing figure has become an integral part of the city's cultural fabric.

Known affectionately as "The Wife" (Kånå) in Stavanger, where its counterpart sculpture stands, The Good Day represents a slice of Norwegian culture and the simplicity of human connections. The selection of Anna Kornelia Holm as the model for this sculpture adds authenticity and depth to the artwork. Holm, originally from Skjervøy in Troms, relocated to Trondheim as a young woman to work as a maid, embodying the spirit of hard work and dedication celebrated by this statue.

Since its installation in Trondheim's Town Square in 1983, the sculpture has served as a reminder of the city's appreciation for art depicting everyday life and the importance of community.
