Göteborg Konstmuseum (Gothenburg Museum of Art), Gothenburg

The Gothenburg Museum of Art is the third-largest art museum in Sweden based on the size of its collection. It holds a renowned collection of late 19th-century Nordic art, with the Fürstenberg Gallery being a prominent highlight. This gallery, named after the generous art donors Pontus Fürstenberg and Göthilda, features works by notable artists such as P.S. Krøyer, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, Edvard Munch, and Anders Zorn. Additionally, the museum houses both older and contemporary Nordic and international art, including pieces by Monet, Picasso, and Rembrandt.

Recognized for its excellence, the museum has been awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide (Green Guide Scandinavia). The museum's original building, designed by architect Sigfrid Ericson for the Gothenburg Exhibition in 1923, exhibits a monumental Neo-Classical style typical of Nordic architecture. An eastern extension, designed by Rune Falk, was added during 1966–1968.

Constructed originally to commemorate the city's 300th anniversary, the museum stands as an imposing structure at the end of Kungsportsavenyn, the main street of Gothenburg. Its origins trace back to the Museum of Gothenburg, established in 1861, with the current building completed in 1925 as part of the development of Götaplatsen into a cultural hub. Over the years, expansions occurred in 1968 and 1996 to accommodate the growing collection and visitors.
