Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids

The Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) is a premier cultural institution in Grand Rapids, showcasing a diverse collection that spans from Renaissance to Modern Art. Renowned for its holdings in 19th and 20th-century European and American art, GRAM is home to over 6,500 works of art, including more than 3,500 prints, drawings, and photographs. Among its most notable pieces is Richard Diebenkorn’s 1963 painting, Ingleside.

Established in 1910 as the Grand Rapids Art Gallery, the museum originally operated out of a residence before moving to the historic Federal Building on Pearl Street in 1981. In 2004, GRAM embarked on a bold new chapter, constructing a LEED Gold-certified museum building, a 125,000-square-foot architectural landmark designed with sustainability in mind. The initial design was developed by Munkenbeck+Marshall Architects and later completed by Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY Architecture.

Beyond its impressive collection, GRAM is deeply committed to community engagement. It hosts a dynamic range of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, artist talks, and live music events, making it a creative and educational hub for visitors of all ages. The museum also reflects Grand Rapids’ legacy as a center for design and craftsmanship, with a growing focus on modern craft and contemporary design.

With an ever-evolving program and a mission to connect people through art, the Grand Rapids Art Museum is more than just a gallery-it’s a cultural and creative space that fosters inspiration, dialogue, and artistic appreciation for both locals and visitors.
