Guardastelle Vineyard, San Gimignano

Guardastelle Vineyard, San Gimignano

Built on foundations dating back to approximately the mid-15th century-evident in its construction techniques reminiscent of San Gimignano’s famous towers-Guardastelle was almost derelict until Susanna, a member of the second generation of owners, undertook its revival starting in 1984. Over the next two decades, the estate evolved from the former Sovestro in Poggio into Guardastelle Vineyard, named after a starry evening that inspired a new identity for the winery and farmstay.

Today, this boutique vineyard spans about five hectares of vines on southeast-facing slopes-ideal for sun exposure-and includes roughly 400 olive trees, set at around 290 meters elevation. The estate focuses on producing DOCG-certified wines, including Chianti of the Sienese Hills, Vernaccia of San Gimignano, and other small-production. A highlight is their Consesta Vernaccia-a crisp, savoury white with citrus and stone-fruit notes.

Guardastelle invites visitors to immerse themselves in its wine culture through a variety of tailored experiences. The Premium Wine Tour with Lunch includes a guided walk through the vineyards and cellar, followed by a locally inspired Tuscan meal and a tasting of their five wines, lasting approximately two and a half hours. Alternatively, a shorter Mini Tour with Aperitif offers wine tasting paired with regional snacks. For those seeking a more relaxed visit, standalone tastings or light bites are available during regular opening hours.

Beyond wine, Guardastelle offers a warm, family-oriented hospitality. Guests can stay in charming rooms and apartments named after constellations or family members, enjoy cooking classes, olive oil tastings, and unwind in the serene countryside.
