Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg (House of History Baden-Württemberg), Stuttgart

The House of History Baden-Württemberg, located on Stuttgart's “Culture Mile” along Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, is a prominent state museum dedicated to the rich history of Baden-Württemberg. The museum is situated between the State Gallery and the University of Music, forming a cultural hub in the city. Founded on October 1, 1987, the museum's inception involved a dedicated team, including state historian Otto Borst, long-time museum director Thomas Schnabel, and exhibition director Paula Lutrum-Lenger. The project culminated in the opening of a permanent exhibition on December 13, 2002, after 15 years of preparation.

The museum building, part of the Stirling-Wilford ensemble, was initiated by Erwin Teufel and completed in 2002 by architects Michael Wilford and Manuel Schupp. The permanent exhibition spans over 2000 square meters and is organized into three distinct parts. The first section features 26 objects representing typical aspects of Baden-Württemberg, each corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. The second part chronicles 200 years of state history, showcasing artifacts that narrate the histories of the states of Baden and Württemberg. This section is designed to allow visitors to form their interpretations, as there are no explanatory text panels, encouraging personal reflection and exploration.

The third part of the exhibition, known as the theme park, places contemporary events in a historical context, covering topics like nature and the environment, the economy, urbanization, religion, migration, and the relationship with neighboring France. This thematic approach aims to connect current issues with historical narratives, providing a broader understanding of the region's cultural and historical dynamics. The exhibition's innovative design was developed by Uwe R. Brückner's Atelier Brückner, emphasizing an immersive and thought-provoking visitor experience.
