Jamaica Stock Exchange, Kingston
Situated on Harbour Street in the heart of Kingston’s scenic waterfront, the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) stands as one of the most influential financial institutions in the Caribbean. Incorporated in 1968 and commencing operations in 1969 from the Bank of Jamaica building, the JSE relocated to its current home-a striking art-deco red structure surrounded by elegant palm trees-in 1998. From here, visitors and professionals alike can enjoy sweeping views of Kingston Harbour, adding a touch of serenity to the city's financial epicenter.
The JSE's central mission is the mobilization of capital to drive the growth of businesses and, in turn, support the wider Jamaican economy. It has grown into a multi-tiered exchange consisting of the Main Market, Junior Market, USD Market, and Bond Market. As of September 30, 2019, the Exchange listed 85 companies with 120 securities and a total market capitalization of over JM$2 trillion, securing its position among the largest and most sector-diverse stock exchanges in the region.
Industry coverage spans banking, finance, insurance, retail, manufacturing, leisure, communications, real estate, and conglomerates. The JSE’s leadership includes Chairman Ian McNaughton, Deputy Chairman Gary Peart, and Managing Director Marlene Street Forrest, under whom the Exchange thrives as a key pillar of Jamaica’s financial and economic infrastructure.
