Janeshwar Mishra Park, Lucknow
Janeshwar Mishra Park is one of the largest urban parks in Asia, opened to the public in August 2014 and named in memory of the late socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra. The park was envisioned to rival spaces like London’s Hyde Park in both scope and atmosphere. The architectural plan was crafted by the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi, blending ecological design with public utility.
A highlight for visitors is the vast network of pathways: dedicated tracks for jogging, walking, and cycling extend over lengths of 5.3 km, 8.9 km, and 10.5 km respectively. These routes are barrier-free, making them accessible for seniors and visitors with mobility needs. The park features artificial lakes adorned with fountains and lagoons that attract migratory birds, and options for pedal or gondola boating add to the scenic charm.
More than just greenery, the park hosts several themed zones and recreational facilities. A 25‑ft statue of Janeshwar Mishra, designed by American sculptor Edward Breathitt, greets visitors near the entrance. Nearby displays include an Indian Air Force plane and vintage tanks. There are designated areas for yoga, meditation, and open-air exercise, alongside children’s play zones, souvenir stalls, food kiosks, and an auditorium used for cultural events and water-screen shows.
