Jardin Botanico de Acapulco (Acapulco Botanical Garden), Acapulco
The Botanical Garden of Acapulco, founded through the joint endeavors of 32 women, reflects their strong commitment to preserving the local biodiversity and safeguarding Acapulco's biological wealth. This green oasis, home to nearly 3,000 specimens across 18 distinct species, also hosts a program dedicated to the rescue of native trees.
An excellent destination for family outings, the garden offers an opportunity to marvel at the grandeur of granite rocks, tranquil ponds adorned with aquatic plants, and a meandering stream. Amidst Acapulco's reputation as a premier beach haven, this garden serves as a haven for preserving nature's beauty and fostering ecological awareness. Its history dates back to its inauguration on March 2, 2002, by the founding members of Acapulco's First Gardening Club, Esther Pliego de Salinas and María Garza de Dávila. Originally conceived as a botanical trail, the garden has since transformed into its current iteration.
Driven by the need to protect the deciduous subtropical jungle from the encroaching urban sprawl of Acapulco, the club members joined forces with Loyola Pacific University, birthing what we now recognize as the Botanical Garden of Acapulco.
Spread across 6 hectares within the Sierra Madre del Sur, at an elevation ranging from 200 to 400 meters above sea level, this garden is a place of natural splendor and a platform for preservation and education, underlining the significance of nature in our lives.
