Jorge “The Magic” González National Stadium, San Salvador
The Jorge “The Magic” González National Stadium, originally known as Flor Blanca National Stadium, is a revered sports venue inaugurated in 1935 to host the Central American and Caribbean Games. Constructed under the direction of President Maximiliano Hernández Martínez, the stadium was named after the Flor Blanca neighborhood where it resides.
In 2002, coinciding with the stadium’s 70th anniversary and another Central American and Caribbean Games, it underwent a significant renovation-doubling its capacity with 20,000 new seats and installing a modern Tartan athletics track that became one of the most advanced facilities in Central America at the time. Then, in 2006, the stadium was renamed in honor of the legendary Salvadoran footballer Jorge "El Mágico" González.
A comprehensive renovation completed in 2023 restored the stadium’s structural integrity and enhanced its amenities. It now features updated stands, improved lighting, upgraded facilities, better energy and water usage, a new museum dedicated to “El Mágico”, revamped VIP areas, and organized retail spaces. Today, the stadium stands as a venue for sport events and cultural performances, hosting football matches, games played by the national team, as well as athletics competitions and large-scale cultural events.
