Josiah Tobey House, Falmouth

The Josiah Tobey House, located on Oxbow Road in Falmouth, is a striking example of mid-19th-century Greek Revival architecture. Built in 1854 for Josiah Tobey, a native of Sandwich, Massachusetts, the house sits on land connected to his in-laws, reflecting the deep familial ties that shaped early Cape Cod settlements.

This 1¾-story wood-frame residence is distinguished by its Doric-columned porch, set beneath a steeply pitched gable, a hallmark of the Greek Revival style. The right-side entry, partially enclosed between two of the porch’s four columns, adds to its uniqueness. The floor-to-ceiling windows under the porch further enhance its elegant, classical character.

Beyond its architectural merit, the Josiah Tobey House is a historical touchstone in Falmouth, a town with strong colonial and maritime roots.
