Juneau Cruise Port, Juneau

Juneau Cruise Port, Juneau

The Juneau Cruise Port is the main arrival point for many visitors exploring Alaska’s Inside Passage and one of the busiest cruise destinations in the state. Unlike most state capitals, Juneau has no road connection to the rest of Alaska and can only be reached by air or sea. This distinctive location, combined with its role as the state capital, gives the city a unique mix of political history, cultural attractions, and access to the surrounding wilderness.

Cruise ships dock within walking distance of downtown Juneau, allowing passengers to easily explore the historic city center, with its shops, restaurants, galleries, and landmarks. The port area includes several docking facilities along the waterfront, serving large cruise ships as well as smaller vessels. From the docks, visitors can quickly reach popular attractions such as the Mount Roberts Tramway, whale-watching excursions, the Alaska State Museum, and tours to nearby Mendenhall Glacier.

The cruise port serves as a convenient starting point for exploring both Juneau’s urban attractions and its natural surroundings. Visitors can spend time discovering the city’s Gold Rush-era history and local culture, or join excursions into the surrounding landscapes, including glacier tours, wildlife cruises, hiking trails, and kayaking adventures in the waters of Southeast Alaska.

They built permanent villages along the coast and rivers, thriving through fishing, trading, and a way of life deeply rooted in the region’s natural rhythms.
