Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, Wichita

Within Wichita’s historic Boathouse building, the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame offers a compelling snapshot of the state’s athletic legacy. Since its founding in 1961 during Kansas’s Centennial Celebration, the museum has grown into a 27,000-square-foot gallery dedicated to honoring over 349 inductees-from legendary figures like basketball pioneer Dr. James Naismith to National Football League icon Barry Sanders and first female Harlem Globetrotter Lynette Woodard.

With exhibits ranging from vintage jerseys and signed memorabilia to interactive displays and video highlights, the Hall captures both the milestones and personal stories that have shaped Kansas sports.

The museum operates by appointment, ensuring a relaxed visit where you can explore at your own pace-guided if preferred-while discovering athletes like Willie Jeffries, the first African-American National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I head football coach, and other trailblazers.

Beyond celebrating individual achievements, the Hall hosts occasional lectures, banquets and sports-themed events, and doubles as an event venue with versatile meeting spaces.
