Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung

The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is Taiwan’s third major fine arts institution. Nestled within Neiweipi Cultural Park, the museum features a mix of indoor galleries and outdoor sculpture spaces. Its architecture blends modern design with environmental sensitivity, offering open-air corridors, high-ceiling galleries, and landscaped areas for public enjoyment. The museum houses a rich and varied collection of more than 4,000 artworks, ranging from local masterpieces to international contemporary pieces.

Inside, the museum’s exhibitions unfold across four spacious floors, each curated to highlight visual rhythm through the interplay of light, scale, and form. Signature pieces include Water Buffalo Herd, the final work by Taiwan’s pioneering sculptor Huang Tu-shui, alongside notable works from Western artists such as Bourdelle. Many exhibitions are accompanied by short documentaries and bilingual materials, offering deeper context and interactive engagement. Select shows also incorporate virtual reality, digital animation, and immersive environments that invite personal exploration.

The museum offers a variety of tour options tailored to different visitor needs. Group tours by appointment are available in Mandarin, Taiwanese, English, and Japanese and must be arranged at least two weeks in advance. Recorded audio guides are also provided for select exhibitions, with devices available for loan using a valid ID. In addition, visitors can browse exhibition content via in-museum computers, or tune in to the “You and the Arts” broadcast, aired weekly on Kaohsiung Broadcasting Station.

Complementing its exhibitions, the museum includes a well-stocked art library, open to the public for research or leisure. Visitor amenities include water fountains, a gift shop, a café, and a full-service restaurant.
