Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, Kitchener
The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum is Ontario’s largest community museum. It combines indoor galleries with a 60-acre outdoor area called Doon Heritage Village. Together, they tell the story of Waterloo Region, from early settlement to modern times, in a way that is easy to follow.
Inside the main gallery, visitors move through the region’s history step by step. The museum has been collecting artifacts since 1912, and many of these items are cared for in its Curatorial Centre. On display are everyday items such as tools, clothing, furniture, and objects from local farms and factories. The museum also features the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame, which has honoured more than 400 people and groups since 1972 for contributions in sports, science, arts, and public service.
Outside, Doon Heritage Village recreates a rural community as it looked in 1914. More than 20 historic buildings were moved here and furnished in period style. Costumed staff demonstrate cooking, trades, and daily work from before modern technology.
