Krause Gallery, Providence

Krause Gallery is a compact contemporary art space located on the campus of Moses Brown School. Housed inside Friends Hall, it presents rotating exhibitions by local and national artists. School exhibitions also bring student and faculty work into the program, linking professional art with the creative life of the campus. The gallery is open to the public without an admission fee.

Friends Hall was built in 1962 and designed by The Architects Collaborative. Its architecture combines modernist forms with materials associated with traditional New England buildings. Inside the gallery, white display walls, wooden structural details and focused lighting create a simple setting for paintings, photographs, prints and mixed-media works.

The exhibition program covers varied subjects and techniques. Past displays have included documentary photographs and historical objects connected with early 20th-century China, while recent school projects have explored self-portraiture through drawing, painting, photography and digital editing. These changing installations allow visitors to see both established artistic practices and work developed through education. As the program follows the academic calendar, checking the current exhibition before arriving is useful.
