Linh Ung Pagoda. Lady Buddha., Danang

Linh Ung Pagoda. Lady Buddha., Danang (must see)

Linh Ung Pagoda is one of the most prominent religious sites in Da Nang, set high on the slopes of Son Tra Peninsula—often called “Monkey Mountain”—overlooking the sea. The pagoda is best known for the towering Lady Buddha statue, which rises to about 67 meters, making it the tallest statue of its kind in Vietnam. Its elevated position offers expansive views of the coastline and the city below.

Enter through the main gate, known as the Triple Gate, and walk forward into the central courtyard. The Main Prayer Hall stands directly ahead at the top of the space. As you move into the courtyard, look to your left to see the Lady Buddha statue rising above the complex. Because this area is part of Monkey Mountain, you will often notice wild macaques moving around the grounds. They are accustomed to visitors, but it is best not to feed them or leave food unattended.

From the courtyard, follow the pathway leading toward the statue on the left side of the complex. Along the way, rows of smaller stone figures are arranged symmetrically, guiding you toward its base. The statue faces the sea, symbolizing protection for fishermen and good fortune for the city. Once you reach the open space in front of it, take a moment to appreciate both its scale and the surrounding scenery. On clear days, the view stretches along the coastline as far as the Marble Mountains and even the distant Cham Islands.

After visiting the statue, continue walking toward the edges of the complex, where paths lead to viewpoints overlooking the bay. These areas provide wide panoramas back toward Da Nang’s skyline and the curve of the coast. The setting is especially calm in the early morning or late afternoon, when the light is softer and the atmosphere more relaxed. Together, the architecture, natural surroundings, and elevated views make Linh Ung Pagoda a memorable and scenic stop.
