Lock 3 Live!, Akron
Lock 3 Live! is an outdoor public space and entertainment venue built around a restored section of the Ohio & Erie Canal. Opened in 2003, it became a regular setting for concerts, festivals, community gatherings and seasonal events. A major redevelopment completed in 2024 reshaped the site into a more flexible, year-round park with new landscaping, shaded seating and improved connections to the Towpath Trail.
One of its main features is the Maynard Performance Pavilion, designed with three performance sides that can serve events of different sizes. The largest lawn-facing area accommodates major concerts, while smaller sides face a game patio and the canal. The redesigned grounds include more than 35,000 native plants, over 100 trees, public artwork and several areas where visitors can sit, walk or watch activity around the park.
Programming changes with the seasons. Summer brings live music, food festivals, cultural celebrations and family activities, while winter traditionally adds two skating areas, holiday displays and special events. The nearby canal remains an important visual and historical element, linking the modern performance space with the nineteenth-century waterway that supported trade and industrial growth across northeastern Ohio.
