Mario Vargas Llosa House Museum, Arequipa

The Mario Vargas Llosa House Museum is situated in the very house where the renowned Peruvian writer spent his formative years. The museum comprises 17 rooms that chronicle Mario Vargas Llosa's life from his birth to the receipt of the Nobel Prize. These spaces vividly depict his experiences at the Leoncio Prado Military College, the University of San Marcos, as well as his journeys to Paris and London. Additionally, visitors can delve into his pursuits in writing and politics, alongside exploring his notable literary works.

Comprising 16 distinct spaces, the museum meticulously showcases the milestones of Vargas Llosa's career, from his early upbringing to his acclaimed publications. Notable highlights include original manuscripts, personal belongings, and even a collection of books and paintings graciously donated by the author himself.

The journey commences in the room where Mario Vargas Llosa spent his childhood, offering insights into his earliest years before delving into his adolescence, youth, and adulthood. Through a combination of videos and holographic displays, visitors are immersed in Vargas Llosa's experiences, witnessing his travels, reflections, and interactions with fellow writers as if encountering the man himself. Particularly noteworthy is the display of the original manuscript of his debut novel, "The City and the Dogs."
