Market Tower, Indianapolis

Market Tower, Indianapolis

Market Tower is a prominent high-rise office building situated at the northeast corner of Illinois and Market Streets in Indianapolis. Completed in 1988, it marked a significant milestone as the city’s largest privately financed speculative office project at the time. Today, it holds the distinction of being the fourth-tallest building in Indianapolis and the fifth-tallest in the state of Indiana. Additionally, it is the second-tallest reinforced concrete structure in Indiana, surpassed only by the Indiana Michigan Power Center in Fort Wayne.

Market Tower's striking postmodern design integrates elements inspired by neighboring landmarks, ensuring it harmonizes with the architectural landscape around Monument Circle. Its exterior features a grid-like façade with red and gray granite, metal mullions, and tinted windows. A series of elegant setbacks culminates in a copper roof adorned with eight spires, lending the building a distinctive skyline presence. Notably, the eastern façade includes a cantilevered floorplate beginning on the second floor, projecting over an alleyway. The tower also boasts a three-story atrium facing W. Market Street and a three-level underground parking garage.

Market Tower offers a range of amenities, including a café, a conference center, a fitness facility, and a restaurant. As of 2022, the building was 85% occupied, with notable tenants such as the multinational law firm Dentons and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana.

This blend of architectural elegance, historical significance, and modern functionality makes Market Tower a key feature of Indianapolis’s downtown skyline and urban ecosystem.
