Mercado Agricola de Montevideo (MAM) is one of the largest agricultural markets in Montevideo. It is located in the Aguada neighborhood.

It is the last of the great markets built in iron in Montevideo, which also has the Mercado de la Abundancia, located in the center of the city, and the Mercado del Puerto located in the Old City. The original building also has false towers on its four corners that also culminate in a spire.

It was built in 1906 to centralize all the agricultural food merchants of the city of Montevideo, who used to meet in the old Plaza de las Carretas, or de Frutos, on the property now occupied by the Legislative Palace and the Parque Mártires de Chicago. The property where it was built was donated by Carlos Crocker and was finally inaugurated in 1913, when it was enabled after complying with the hygiene and health requirements that prevailed at the time, in addition to centralizing the farmer merchants. Later it would undergo some extensions, the first in 1929 and another in 1945.1

In 1937, because it was too small for its purpose, it was replaced by the Mercado Modelo, on the outskirts of the city at the time. Remaining the Agricultural Market as a retail market.

In 2006, the Agricultural Market returned to the property of the Municipality of Montevideo and it began to project its reconstruction, a project that was accompanied by a process of revitalization of the entire surrounding area. Also promoting an urban recovery and repopulation of the Goes neighborhood. 2 .3 The recovery had the support of the Inter-American Bank and was delayed until 2013, opening the same year.
