Museo de Unamuno (Unamuno Museum), Salamanca
The Unamuno House-Museum is housed in an elegant 18th-century university chancellor’s residence, designed by architect Andrés García de Quiñones. During Miguel de Unamuno’s tenure as rector of the University of Salamanca until 1914, he lived and worked here-making it both an intellectual and personal home for the philosopher, novelist, and essayist of Spain’s Generation of ’98.
Walk through rooms frozen in time: the family’s living quarters, Unamuno’s study, and even his bedroom remain furnished and arranged as they were when he lived here. His private library of about 6,000 books, original furnishings, personal effects, and a cozy reading room with his personal archives, also preserved upstairs, paint an intimate portrait of his everyday world.
Much more than a period house, the museum celebrates Unamuno’s intellectual presence through visual storytelling-portraits span his adult life, offering a “visual biography.” Personal objects-like his favorite rocking chair where he read or made origami birds-invite visitors to connect with the man behind the words.
Since its inauguration as a museum in the early 1950s, the museum has served as a research resource and center of cultural memory. Recent archival discoveries-like letters from Albert Einstein and H. G. Wells-are being prepared for display.

Salamanca Introduction Walking Tour
Usually, frogs inhabit marshy lands, not the sun-baked plains of central Spain. Yet Salamanca is the exception. The small stone frog adorning the façade of the University of Salamanca keeps a watchful eye over visitors. Local legend says that if you find the frog among the carvings, fate will one day bring you back to the city.
