Naprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures, Prague

Inspired by the grand Victorian museums of London, Vojta Náprstek transformed the family brewery into what is now the Náprstek Museum. Originally conceived to showcase the virtues of industrial progress, Náprstek's focus gradually shifted towards anthropology. Today, the museum primarily features ethnographic collections from the Americas, Australasia, and Oceania, supplemented by contributions from scholars in the field.

Despite facing financial constraints, the museum consistently presents exceptional temporary ethnographic exhibitions on its ground floor, fostering an environment of cultural tolerance. With a total of 95,000 artifacts in its possession, not all are currently on display. The main exposition halls highlight Amerindian and Australian objects, offering insights into the 19th-century lifestyles of indigenous peoples from these continents. Additionally, there are rotating exhibitions showcasing non-European cultures in another hall.

Visitors can additionally explore a well-stocked gift shop offering posters and books detailing the museum's collections and information about various native tribes from the 19th century. However, if you wish to take photographs inside the museum, an additional fee will be required.
