National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, George Town (must see)
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is the leading art institution in the country and a vibrant hub for cultural expression. Founded in 1996, the gallery supports Caymanian visual arts through exhibitions, artist residencies, educational outreach, and research projects. Its mission is to promote and preserve the Cayman Islands’ rich artistic heritage while also encouraging new generations of artists.
In 2012, NGCI found its permanent home on the Esterley Tibbetts Bypass after operating from a series of temporary spaces. Today, it is a modern, welcoming facility where visitors can explore a wide range of artwork free of charge. As a non-profit under the Ministry of Health and Culture, the gallery is dedicated to serving the public, and its growing collection belongs to the Caymanian people. Exhibitions rotate regularly and include both contemporary and historical works.
The gallery features work by many notable local artists, including Gladwyn K. Bush, Charles Long, Bendel Hydes, and members of The Native Sons art collective such as Al Ebanks and Gordon Solomon.
