Ottoman Aqueduct, Kusadasi
The Ottoman Aqueduct, known locally as “Historical Water Bridge”, stands as a reminder of Kusadasi’s long-standing significance in regional water management. Constructed in the 17th century, this architectural marvel served to channel vital water resources to nearby settlements-an impressive feat of engineering that highlights the ingenuity of the Ottoman era.
Though the aqueduct’s precise date remains anchored in the Ottoman period, there’s also discussion among historians and enthusiasts that earlier Roman or Byzantine systems may have existed in the region, sometimes even overlaying newer structures. Notably, researchers suggest that an Ottoman-era figure, Öküz Mehmed Pasha, orchestrated water channels stretching from Burgaz to Kusadasi. Fragments of these waterworks reportedly survive today, though it's difficult to definitively date them as exclusively Ottoman.
