Patterson Homestead, Dayton

Patterson Homestead, Dayton

The Patterson Homestead is a historic house museum that offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of one of the city’s most influential families. Built in stages between 1816 and 1850, the home showcases classic Federal-style architecture and once stood at the heart of Rubicon Farm, a 2,000-acre estate owned by Colonel Robert Patterson-a Revolutionary War veteran and founder of Lexington, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Today, the museum features six restored period rooms filled with 18th- and 19th-century furnishings and original Patterson family artifacts, providing a richly detailed portrait of early Dayton life.

Three generations of Pattersons were raised in the home, including John H. Patterson and Frank J. Patterson. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the homestead was donated to the city in 1953 by Jefferson Patterson and is now operated by Dayton History. In addition to its historic interiors, the museum includes an exhibit gallery that chronicles the pioneering role NCR played in American industry.
