Rivera Street Iglesia de Cristo (Rivera Street Church of Christ), El Paso

Rivera Street Church of Christ, also called Rivera Street Iglesia de Cristo, is part of the Churches of Christ, a Christian movement that began in the United States in the nineteenth century within the Restoration Movement. The church was established in 1940. Like other congregations in this tradition, it is independent and led by local leaders such as elders and ministers.

Churches of Christ are common across the southern United States and the Southwest. In border communities, many congregations include families with ties on both sides of the U.S.–Mexico boundary. Because of this, services and activities may be held in both English and Spanish. The church may also host Bible study meetings, youth programs, and community gatherings.

The building is simple and practical, which is typical for churches in this tradition. Inside, a main hall holds regular services, with seating facing the pulpit where sermons, scripture readings, and prayers take place. Many Churches of Christ are known for singing without musical instruments, using voices alone during worship. Other rooms are used for classes, meetings, and church programs during the week.
