Rockheim Museum, Trondheim

Rockheim, also known as The National Discovery Centre for Pop and Rock, and The National Museum for Popular Music, serves as Norway's national museum dedicated to popular music from the 1950s to the present day. It operates under the umbrella of Sør-Trøndelag Museums (Museene i Sør-Trøndelag) and is situated in a former grain warehouse in Trondheim. Established in 2010, the museum has been under the directorship of Sissel Guttormsen since 2013. Additionally, Rockheim extends its reach through Virtuelle Rockheim, a virtual platform launched in 2009. Moreover, since 2011, the museum has been inducting musicians and groups into the Rockheim Hall of Fame.

The primary objective of Rockheim is to conserve and chronicle the legacy of Norwegian popular music. Its main exhibition, crafted by Canadian designer Stacey Spiegel, offers a journey through Norwegian musical and cultural history, spanning from the 1950s to the present. Occupying 320 square meters on the top floor of the building, each decade is allocated its own dedicated room within the exhibition space, featuring numerous interactive elements.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted with an interactive map of Norway and given the opportunity to select videos displayed in each room. Additionally, the exhibition includes three discovery rooms: the Ronni Room offers visitors the chance to experiment with guitar playing under the guidance of Ronni Le Tekrø, while the Hiphop Room allows for exploration of DJing, graffiti art, and breakdancing. Virtuelle Rockheim, launched on August 21, 2009, enables visitors to manipulate avatars and explore a selection of exhibits in 3D. Spiegel, the designer behind the virtual museum, anticipated Rockheim to become "the world's most technically sophisticated virtual museum" in 2008, marking it as Norway's pioneering online museum.
