Rotterdam neo-Baroque Paradijskerk, Rotterdam

The Paradijskerk, a neo-baroque masterpiece situated in Rotterdam, serves as the hub for the Catholic rural community of H.H. Petrus en Paulus and houses the Saint Joseph parish as well. Constructed between 1908 and 1910, this religious edifice was envisioned by architect Petrus Augustinus Weeldenburg, incorporating distinct features of the Neo-Baroque architectural style.

More commonly recognized as the "Paradise Church" (Paradijskerk), this grand structure remains partially concealed by neighboring houses along Nieuwe Binnenweg. However, its presence is impossible to ignore, owing to the impressive neo-baroque twin towers soaring to a height of 41 meters each. The opulent baroque interior originates from the concealed church (schuilkerk) of 1718 located on Delftsevaart.

Noteworthy components such as the original altar façade, communion bench, organ enclosure, and pulpit were meticulously crafted and constructed between 1720 and 1725 by A.D. Pluskens, a skilled master woodcarver hailing from Antwerp. The strategic decision to transfer these interior elements and the organ to the current church proved providential, as it shielded them from the ravages of the German bombing raid in May 1940, ensuring their preservation.
