Sankt Elisabeth (St. Elisabeth's Church), Aachen
St. Elisabeth's Church was built in the early 20th century for a growing Catholic community. Construction started in 1907, and the church was consecrated in 1910. It was designed by architect Josef Kleesattel, who worked on many churches in the Rhineland. The building reflects a time when new neighborhoods were expanding and needed their own parish churches for regular services and community life.
The church was built in a Neo-Romanesque style popular around 1900. The exterior has rounded arches, thick brick walls, and a clear, simple shape. A central tower rises above the entrance, while lighter stone details break up the brickwork without heavy decoration.
Inside, the church has a wide central nave with lower side aisles in a traditional basilica layout. Rounded arches lead toward the altar, and light enters through evenly spaced windows. The building was damaged during the Second World War and later repaired, keeping its original structure. Today, it is still used for services and shows early 20th-century church design shaped by rebuilding.
