SKALVIJA Cinema Center, Vilnius
SKALVIJA Cinema Center is a beloved destination for film enthusiasts in Vilnius. Despite its small size, with just one screen and 121 seats, the cinema is well-known for its unique programming of non-commercial European and World cinema, both classic and contemporary films. It hosts more than 1200 screenings and welcomes over 58,000 visitors annually.
The cinema has become a major venue for cinematic events such as film festivals, meetings with filmmakers, retrospectives, and special screenings. It is a member of two cinema networks, Europa Cinemas and CICEA. SKALVIJA plays a significant role in promoting diversity in Lithuania's film culture by organizing international events, including the Vilnius Documentary Film Festival, accompanied by workshops, master classes, lectures, and seminars with film professionals from Lithuania and abroad.
SKALVIJA's mission also includes educating young people about film and filmmaking. It offers various courses on scriptwriting, directing, editing, and film history, complemented by week-long outdoor filmmaking workshops. In 2007, SKALVIJA Film Academy was established to provide 14-18-year-olds with hands-on filmmaking classes. Students can choose from three different study programs - feature film, documentary film, film theory, and analysis - guided and consulted by professional filmmakers.
