St. Michael Kirche (St. Michael's Church), Wurzburg
St. Michael's Church is a Roman Catholic parish church associated with the episcopal seminary. This west-facing gallery basilica features a four-bay nave, suggested transept arms, and an apsidal choir topped by a choir tower with bells. Inside, the crossing is vaulted with a flat dome, while the exterior has a roof turret. The eastern portal is designed as a representative facade inspired by Roman Baroque architecture.
The church's organ was originally built in 1959 by Johannes Klais Orgelbau and later expanded and re-voiced by the same company in 1996. It now features 35 stops across three manuals and pedals. The alabaster stucco decorations, created by Heinrich Gerhard Bücker starting in 1988, depict scenes from the Book of Revelation. A central 6-meter-high figure of Christ stands prominently, reflecting the vision described in Revelation. Above, in the apse vault, the Lamb of God is shown with the book of the seven seals, surrounded by the twelve gates of the heavenly Jerusalem, each with a figure in adoration.
The archways display the names of the twelve tribes of Israel in Hebrew, while the thresholds bear the names of the twelve apostles in Greek. At the dome's center is the Hebrew name of God, the Tetragrammaton, within the triangle of the Trinity and the circle of perfection. This is encircled by twelve men seated on thrones with harps. The four pendentives below display symbols of the four evangelists. The entire depiction is a complex representation of the Book of Revelation, with the 24 elders represented as the sum of the twelve figures in the dome and the twelve in the apse.

The old Franconian episcopal city and university town of Würzburg in the German state of Bavaria boasts a history dating back to the Bronze Age. Originally, the Leistenberg hill presently occupied by Marienberg Fortress was home to a Celtic and later a Roman fort. In the 4th-5th centuries AD, Alamanni settled in the area, followed by the Franks in the 6th-7th centuries.
