St. Pancras New Church & Crypt Gallery, London

St. Pancras New Church & Crypt Gallery, London

The oldest building along Euston Road is Saint Pancras New Church, constructed in the 1820s at a significant cost, situated at the intersection of Upper Woburn Place. As the first example of Greek Revival architecture in London, it is renowned for its octagonal tower, inspired by the Tower of the Winds in Athens, and its caryatids, which are modeled after the Erechtheion on the Acropolis. It's worth noting that the caryatids had to be shortened at the waist because they were initially too tall.

The church hosts complimentary recitals on Thursday lunchtimes, and the Crypt Gallery, accessed from Duke's Road, regularly hosts exhibitions in an enchanting and maze-like setting. The exhibitions cover a wide range of subjects, including art, photography, and even engineering. It's important to exercise caution, though, as the floor is uneven, and there are steps to navigate, making it potentially challenging for individuals with mobility issues to access the gallery.
