Stora Nygatan, Malmo

Stora Nygatan, Malmo

Stora Nygatan is a bustling thoroughfare in Malmo, less of a main street but more in terms of shopping and art. The place brims with life, and not surprisingly so, given the density of retail shops, boutiques and art galleries here – like nowhere else in the city.

One of the main local residents is Hansa, Malmo's most central shopping mall. Inside you will find contemporary fashion brands like Hope, whose garments are often classics with a twist, and come with unique labeling – all pieces are marked with both men’s and women’s sizes, to encourage customers to explore the full assortment. Another notable outlet is HandArt Atelje & Butik, a new store with handmade Swedish arts and crafts. Here you can find jewellery made of silver, glass and plexiglass, textile, wood, ceramics, art prints, etc.

In addition to the retail galore, Stora Nygatan is also home to some of Malmo's finest cafés and restaurants to relax in after a tiresome shopping outing. It is also visually stunning, with buildings with stately facades and lots of cobblestones. During the warm season, festivals are often held on this street, inviting city residents to go outside and plunge into the party.
