Takao Railway Museum, Kaohsiung
The Takao Railway Museum is for history enthusiasts and train lovers alike. Located in the city’s Yancheng District near the Pier-2 Art Center, the museum is housed in the historic Takao Railway Station, which was originally built in 1900 during the Japanese colonial period. As the oldest remaining railway station in Kaohsiung, it offers visitors a unique glimpse into Taiwan’s rail heritage and the important role rail transport played in the region’s development.
Inside the museum, exhibits cover the evolution of Taiwan’s railway system with a focus on southern Taiwan, featuring historical photographs, vintage railway equipment, conductor uniforms, and scale models. One of the highlights is the preserved station building itself, with its wooden structure and original architectural details that reflect early 20th-century design. Visitors can also walk along a restored platform and view decommissioned train cars, making it an immersive and nostalgic experience.
