Terrain des Peintres (Land of the Painters), Aix-en-Provence

Terrain des Peintres (Land of the Painters), Aix-en-Provence

The Land of the Painters (Terrain des Peintres) is a public park. The land was converted into a public garden in 2004. The tall trees and Mediterranean plants frame the Mountain of Sainte Victoire from multiple angles.

Walking through the Land of the Painters feels like wandering inside a Cezanne painting. It is because the artist regularly came to this area for inspiration for more than 80 paintings in his later years.

A walking path through the park offers easy access to the best views. Reproductions of paintings that show the land with the mountain in view are on display so visitors can see the inspiration while looking at the work.

The Land of the Painters is accessed by walking up a path. Most tourists can reach the gardens in about 10 minutes on foot. The Land of the Painters is open daily and has free entrance.

In the Footsteps of Paul Cézanne
