Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Headquarters, Austin

Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Headquarters, Austin

The Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Headquarters, commonly known as "The Mansion," is a notable Georgian Revival mansion in Austin. It's situated at the southwest corner of 24th Street and San Gabriel Street. This architectural gem was completed in 1931, serving as the headquarters for the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs. Its establishment was supported by local philanthropist Clara Driscoll and designed by the Dallas architect Henry Coke Knight.

The Mansion is located adjacent to the historic Neill-Cochran House, adding to its significance in the Judge's Hill neighborhood. This location, just west of the University of Texas, enhances its prominence in the area.

Renowned for being one of the finest examples of Georgian Revival architecture in Texas, The Mansion has evolved in its usage over the years. While it was initially the hub for the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, it is now primarily used for hosting weddings and receptions. Adding to its cultural significance, every Thursday night since 1999, the Austin Swing Syndicate has been holding swing dance events in its spacious interior. The dances take place on the 4,000 square foot sprung polished oak floors, a feature that underscores the building's historical and architectural importance.
