The Arch Street Tavern, Hartford

The Arch Street Tavern, Hartford

The Arch Street Tavern, nestled on Arch Street in downtown Hartford, is more than just a pub-it’s a piece of the city’s living history. Originally built in 1895 as the Hartford Brick Carriage Factory, the building has seen many lives: from housing fire engines to crafting truck bodies, and finally, since 1978, pouring pints and serving pub classics in a space full of character.

As Hartford’s oldest watering hole, the tavern combines laid-back charm with a packed calendar of events. Its location in the buzzing Front Street Entertainment District makes it a prime destination for locals and visitors alike. Live music fills the air from Wednesday to Saturday nights, with acts taking the stage in a dedicated performance area, while patrons kick back at the bar or on the spacious 1,400-square-foot outdoor patio.

The menu leans into comfort food territory, and the Corned Beef Reuben comes highly recommended. With 22 beers on draft-ranging from popular Connecticut craft brews to familiar national favorites-there’s something for every taste. Trivia nights and other casual events keep the atmosphere lively, while private functions like weddings and fundraisers are welcome too.
