The Universe of Memories of João Carlos Nunes Abreu is a Civic and Cultural Center located in Funchal. It was established to serve as a repository for the collection donated by João Carlos Nunes Abreu. He was a multifaceted personality, having worked as a journalist, writer, hotel manager, and former Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture in the Região Autónoma of Madeira.

The Regional Government acquired a 19th-century mansion in Funchal in 2001, which was built by Francisco Simão, the illegitimate son of the Countess of Calçada. This mansion, situated close to the Santa Clara Convent and the Quinta das Cruzes Museum, features a library, an auditorium, and a chat house. The Civic and Cultural Center was officially opened on September 1, 2003.
