Wirtshaus am See, Bregenz
Wirtshaus am See first opened on May 16, 1907, as a clubhouse for the Bregenz Sailing Club. Since 1930, the building has been owned by the city. After a major fire, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2004. Today, it remains closely linked to the lake and to the cultural life of the area, especially during the festival season, when many guests stop by before or after performances.
The restaurant stands directly on the shore of Lake Constance, with open views toward Germany and Switzerland. Large glass fronts connect the dining room with the water outside. The historic building combines a half-hipped roof and timber details with modern glass façades that keep the interior bright. In warmer months, most guests prefer the terrace, especially in the evening.
The menu focuses on Austrian and regional cuisine. Guests can order classics such as Wiener Schnitzel and fish from Lake Constance, including Zander when available. There are also vegetarian dishes, seasonal meals, and traditional desserts. Local wines and Austrian beers are well represented. Service is usually friendly and efficient, even during busy summer evenings.
