What to see in Luang Prabang? I can begin to answer that it is the jewel of Laos! Luang Prabang, in fact, boasts a wonderful old town, historic sites, walks along the Mekong and fabulous surroundings. In short, Luang Prabang is, in my opinion, the most beautiful place in all of Laos and, certainly, among the best in all of Southeast Asia.

Luang Prabang boasts a wonderful royal palace. It was built in 1904, then under French rule. The royals lost their power in 1975, when communism took over. A few years later the royal palace was converted into a museum. At present, in fact, you can visit the royal chambers, the gifts of international guests and the crown jewels.

I devoted about an hour and a half to visiting the royal palace. Long pants are required (or rent them on site) and no photos can be taken inside.

The historic center of Luang Prabang is enriched by more than thirty temples, which make walking very pleasant. Among the most famous are Wat May Souvannapoumaram, Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Wisunarat, and Wat Sensoukharam. All of these are located near Sakkaline Road, the main street of Luang Prabang. I also point out, however, Wat Pa Phon Phao: it is about three kilometers away from the old town (I reach by Laos - Ebike) and is beautiful in that it boasts four floors, which get narrower and narrower the higher you go. ......
