Bryggen is the historic heart of Bergen. It’s the old port and a reminder of Bergen’s important role within the Hanseatic League’s trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th century.

Many fires, the last being in 1955, have damaged Bryggen’s characteristic old wooden houses.
